Job DescriptionFirst Energy is looking for an open temporary position with Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L), a subsidiary of First Energy Corp. This role is for Transitional Meter Reading positions in Central & North New Jersey. To be considered, candidates must successfully pass an EEI Meter Reading test. Applicants expressing interest will be considered for future opportunities at multiple locations in Central & Northern NJ.
The starting hourly rate for the position is $32.59.
- Read meters regularly and records on handheld processor
- Estimate readings when required
- Report apparent improper rate classifications
- Check company meter numbers
- Report evidence of meter tampering, diversion of current and other unusual conditions
- Ensure meters are properly sealed
- Read and reset demand meter registers
- Check time and reset water heating and time clocks
- Report complaints or inquiries to the proper authority
- Familiarize self with district rules, assign folios to new accounts, mark location on route map, and make rereads or special readings
- Perform incidental clerical work
- MUST HAVE SUCCESSFULLY PASSED THE BASIC BATTERY TEST
- Ability to perform semi‑routine operations of moderate complexity under directive supervision
- Pertinent and qualifying experience and training in a similar type and line of work
- Exercise a moderate degree of judgment
- Familiarity with the company’s safety rules applicable to this and related jobs; work in moderately varied environments
- Frequent customer contacts of moderate importance required
- Valid driver’s license
- Working vehicle and proof of insurance to perform daily duties
