A rapidly growing construction-focused organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its expanding finance team. This role is ideal for a technically strong accountant who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys mentoring junior staff, and wants exposure to system transitions, acquisitions, and high-visibility projects.
The Senior Accountant will serve as a key partner to the Controller, supporting core accounting operations, reconciliations, reporting, audits, and special initiatives. This is a hands‑on role requiring strong technical ability, attention to detail, and the flexibility to jump in where needed.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Controller with month‑end close, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
- Perform balance sheet and cash account reconciliations with a high level of accuracy
- Maintain daily bank reconciliations and Positive Pay activity
- Prepare and analyze financial reports and account activity
- Manage credit card, payroll, inventory, and insurance reconciliations
- Assist with fixed asset, lease, amortization, and depreciation schedules
- Participate in annual financial audits and other internal/external reporting requirements
- Support tax‑related processes including sales tax filings and license maintenance
- Contribute to WIP review and construction‑related accounting processes (when applicable)
- Assist with special projects including acquisitions, system transitions, and process improvements
- Mentor and collaborate closely with a junior accountant
- Identify efficiency improvements and strengthen accounting controls
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Construction accounting experience Required
- Required: Sage 300 experience — expert-level proficiency is highly valued
- Strong balance sheet and cash reconciliation experience
- Exposure to WIP accounting, software implementations, acquisition accounting, or audit support is highly desirable
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability
- Comfortable researching discrepancies and resolving variances
- Clear communicator and collaborative team player
- Self‑starter who knows when to ask questions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy
- Eagerness to learn and grow within a dynamic environment
