Summary
The Accounting Manager reports directly to the Director of Finance and will conduct the day-to-day accounting activities of the organization. The Accounting Manager will supervise the Grants & Billing Specialist and the Accounting Associate ensuring team cohesion and the pursuit of excellence. The Accounting Manager will also create systems and processes to ensure a smooth month-end close abiding by the cost center and funding source chart of accounts.
Essential Functions
Ensure a complete and accurate month-end close.
Conduct regular reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
Establish firm understanding of the cost center structure and conduct mini audits to ensure proper coding.
Allocate direct and indirect expenses as appropriate.
Prepare and post the payroll journal entry.
Timely amortize all prepaid expenses.
Prepare material accrual entries.
Review A/P & A/R (including cost-reimbursement sources) workflow.
Prepare for annual independent audit and program audits from funding sources.
Assist the Director of Finance with required analyses.
Provide guidance to Grants & Billing Specialist and Accounting Associate in a collaborative manner.
Interface with Development Team regarding donor restriction and reconciling receipts.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in accounting with at least 5 years of accounting experience in a non-profit environment leading a small team.
Have a firm understanding of GAAP.
Familiarity with ‘best practices’ in a non-profit environment funded through cost-reimbursement.
Strong knowledge of MS Office and Adobe (Acrobat Pro).
Familiarity with Quick Books Online ideal or any software with multiple segment reporting.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, exercise sound judgment, and be teachable.
Ability to speak and write professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
Face challenges with calm determination.
A self-starter requiring minimal supervision while simultaneously collaborating with team members.
Ability to handle sensitive material, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
