Job Description:We are looking for a proactive and adaptable Staff Accountant who will play a crucial role in supporting our Controller with process improvements and efficiencies. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in accounting principles and practices, and a willingness to innovate and drive positive change. This position provides room for professional growth, with potential for future leadership opportunities within the accounting team.
In addition to core accounting responsibilities, this role will serve as backup for payroll and select HR functions. While these duties are not part of the day-to-day role, the candidate must be capable of stepping in when needed.
Key Responsibilities:- Accounting Support:
Assist in all aspects of accounting, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting. - Process Improvement:
Collaborate with the Controller to identify and implement process changes that streamline operations and improve efficiency. - Innovation:
Proactively seek out and propose new methods and tools to enhance the effectiveness of accounting practices. - Team Development:
Support the development and eventual management of the accounting team, contributing to a collaborative and growth-oriented environment. - Program Learning:
Quickly learn and adapt to new accounting programs and systems as needed. - Solution-Oriented:
Think creatively to solve accounting challenges and improve existing processes. - Field
Experience:
Apply knowledge of the construction field and lien processes to manage relevant accounting tasks effectively. - Inventory Management:
Utilize experience with inventory systems to support accurate tracking and reporting. - Serve as backup for payroll processing when needed.
- Maintain working knowledge of timeclock systems, timekeeping policies, and payroll procedures.
- Provide backup support for basic HR functions as needed, including employee records, onboarding support, and policy compliance.
- Assist with HR-related documentation and reporting when required.
- Accounting Knowledge:
General knowledge of all aspects of accounting and financial practices. - Experience:
Previous experience in the construction field and familiarity with liens are highly desirable. - Technical
Skills:
Proficiency in Excel and Quick Books Desktop. Experience with inventory systems is important. - Office Management:
Experience in office management is a plus but not required. - Multi-State Sales Tax Knowledge:
Multi-state sales tax preparation experience is a plus. Responsibilities include monitoring multi-state tax status, maintaining appropriate tax records, preparing and filing tax documents, and staying up to date on multiple state tax requirements. - Innovation and Learning:
Willingness to learn new programs and take initiative in finding innovative solutions. - Hands-on experience running biweekly payroll
