The Director of Technical Accounting is responsible for leading the company’s technical accounting and financial reporting activities, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. This role partners cross-functionally with finance, legal, tax, and operational leadership to evaluate complex accounting matters, support strategic initiatives, and strengthen internal controls. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capabilities, public accounting experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research, interpret, and document technical accounting matters under US GAAP, including revenue recognition, leases, stock compensation, business combinations, and debt/equity transactions.
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memos and position papers for management and external auditors.
  • Lead accounting assessments for complex transactions including acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, financing arrangements, and new business initiatives.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes, including SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) where applicable.
  • Monitor and implement new accounting pronouncements and ensure company-wide compliance.
  • Partner with FP&A, legal, tax, treasury, and operational teams to assess accounting implications of strategic initiatives and contracts.
  • Assist with internal and external audits and serve as a key liaison with external auditors.
  • Support SOX compliance efforts and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Drive process improvements, accounting policy development, and reporting efficiencies.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff while serving as a technical accounting resource across the organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA certification required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting experience with a Big 4 or national firm preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Experience with technical accounting areas such as ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 718, ASC 805, and ASC 740 preferred.
  • Prior experience in a public company or PE-backed/high-growth environment strongly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Strong proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting IPO readiness, SEC reporting, or public company compliance.
  • Background in SaaS, technology, manufacturing, or high-growth industries preferred.
  • Experience with ERP implementations and financial systems transformation initiatives.
