Junior Staff Accountant - Phoenix, AZ

With operations in both Arizona and Texas, PMI continues to grow by investing in our people, equipment, and technology. Our Phoenix office serves as a key operational hub supporting field crews, project teams, and customers across the region.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Staff Accountant to support our accounting and operational teams. This role is ideal for an accounting professional looking to gain hands-on experience in construction accounting, financial reporting, project support, and business operations.

What You'll Do
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger adjustments.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Process vendor invoices, payments, and maintain vendor records.
  • Assist with customer invoicing, progress billings, and accounts receivable activities.
  • Support sales tax filings, audits, and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting.
  • Partner with operations teams to improve cost tracking and reporting.
  • Support process improvements and accounting system enhancements.
Qualifications Required
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Construction accounting experience.
  • Experience with job costing and project accounting.
  • Familiarity with certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting.
  • Experience with Sage, Viewpoint, Foundation, Spectrum, or similar accounting systems.
  • Experience supporting public works or DOT-related projects.
Work Environment
  • Primarily office-based with occasional visits to yards, warehouses, and project sites.
  • Fast-paced environment supporting multiple active construction projects.
  • Occasional travel may be required based on business needs.
