Summary: The job of Payroll Accountant is to assure, under supervision, accuracy and compliance of payroll reports, time sheets, etc.; ensure accurate program and funds distribution; and provide personnel with requested information necessary for timely and accurate payment of district employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Maintains payroll information (e.g., pay rates, records, leave records) for an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
- Monitors employee status (e.g., leave time, work location) to ensure accurate distribution of funds and payroll.
- Prepares various reports to provide written support and/or convey information.
- Processes payroll information (e.g., time sheets, withholding information) to update and authorize timely payment.
- Reconciles account balances (e.g., labor distribution, time sheets, leave) to maintain accurate balances and distribution of funds.
- Researches discrepancies of financial information and/or documentation to ensure accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing.
- Responds to written and verbal inquiries (e.g., teachers, substitutes, government agencies, and/or staff) to provide information and/or direction as required.
- Supervises the overall activities of the payroll department to ensure efficient operation.
- Assists other personnel as may be required to support them in completing their work activities.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.
Planning and organizing projects; operating standard office equipment; algebra or geometry; reading manuals, writing documents, presenting information; understanding complex, multi‑step oral and written instructions; knowledge of pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.
Ability to schedule activities, gather and collate data, use basic job‑related equipment; flexibility to work independently or with others; problem solving; working under time constraints; attention to detail; maintaining detailed records; meeting deadlines.
ResponsibilityWorking under limited supervision using standardized practices; leading, guiding and coordinating others; operating within a defined budget.
Work EnvironmentOccasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; fine‑finger dexterity; 90% sitting, 5% walking, 5% standing; performed in a healthy environment.
