Accountant III

Position Summary

The position provides experienced accounting performance of pre-assigned tasks as assigned by financial management; uses professional knowledge and experience to create, with reasonable independence subject to ongoing review, the entries and/or reports needed to account for transactions of the Phoenix Children’s organization. The role also serves in a lead accounting capacity and is recognized as an expert within a segment of the department.

• Prepare and/or review various journal entries in the monthly closing process.
• Lead accounting within a segment of the department (e.g., foundation accounting, fixed assets or revenue accounting) and provide expertise to internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage assigned G/L accounts, performing reconciliations in accordance with department practices.
• Oversee supporting accountants as needed and provide guidance and review of daily work.
• Maintain all accounting records in strict accordance with generally accepted accounting principles as interpreted by senior financial management.
• Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.

• Education (Required): Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Education (Preferred): Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Experience (Required): Five years of post‑degree experience in accounting; five years of experience in a complex healthcare organization.
• Experience (Preferred): None listed.
• Special Skills (Required): Strong Excel skills.
• Additional Qualifications (Required): Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation.
