The City of Phoenix's Finance Department is currently seeking an Accountant III - Financial Reporting to work in the Financial Accounting and Reporting Division. The Accountant III position performs advanced professional accounting work, which requires the application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) with a focus on financial reporting.
Duties may include:
* Analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports, including financial statements for both governmental and enterprise funds.
* Assisting in preparing elements for the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and annual financial reports for enterprise funds and joint ventures.
* Preparing/reviewing/approving various journal entries and payment control documents.
* Performing reconciliations of various general ledger accounts, researching and resolving discrepancies, and recording applicable journal entries.
* Reviewing certain revenues received by the City, recording applicable journal entries, and coordinating with other departments as needed.
* Providing accounting expertise and ensuring integrity of the Customer Care and Billing (CC&B) system and reviews transactions as needed.
* Monitoring legislation and City Council activity for financial impacts that may be reflected in the City's financial statements.
The Accountant III will work under the supervision of an Accounting Supervisor. Additional tasks the Accountant III may be responsible for include assisting in the implementation of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, responding to department requests, and performing enterprise and joint venture accounting functions. Additionally, this position may assist in preparing monthly CC&B reconciliations; assisting in the design and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal control systems;
and serving as a professional accounting resource for special projects or major programs.
Upon supervisory and department head approval, this position may work remotely up to 3 days per week or may work a flexible schedule (9/80 or 4/10). If a 4/10 or 9/80 schedule is chosen, the position is required to work in office each day.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
* Proficiency working with Excel and Word.
* Governmental accounting and/or finance experience.
* Ability to provide accounting expertise and ensure integrity of the Customer Care and Billing (CC&B) system and reviews transactions as needed.
* Knowledge of accounting theories, principles, and practices and their application to various governmental accounting transactions and problems.
* Ability to use SAP to review financial data and post/review journal entries.
* Ability to prepare/review financial statements and schedules using both budgetary and accrual basis accounting.
* Ability to research financial/accounting issues and work with diverse stakeholders to identify and implement solutions.
* Analytical and detail-oriented research skills.
* Professional oral and written communication skills.
* Possess strong critical thinking and organization skills.
SALARY
Pay Range: $67,849.60 to $ annually.
Hiring Range: $67,849.60 to $ annually.

* Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
