Overall Role & Responsibilities
Assist and support the financial and accounting results for the Southwest Region, including Phoenix, San Diego, and Southern California business units. Serve as a strategic business partner to the SPW Project Accountant and SPW Regional Controller (RC). Report timely and accurate information, produce monthly financial results, evaluate risks and opportunities for assigned projects, and support annual 3‑Year Business Planning. Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Advance or lead finance initiatives supporting company wide improvements.
- Work with the RC on draft financials, attend monthly review meetings, and finalize monthly regional financials.
- Maintain and audit the Southwest business unit backlog data.
- Consolidate monthly project fee reporting, analyze variances, and summarize key drivers.
- Monitor overhead cost trends, investigate unusual trends, and participate in monthly/quarterly overhead reviews.
- Assist with preparation of overhead recovery entries specific to self‑perform work.
- Review project cost reports and identify risks or reserves.
- Track labor productivity and understand labor rate structures.
- Ensure accurate project set‑up with cost codes and rates.
- Support monthly risk/reserve analysis for active projects.
- Assist in developing SPW financial statements based on booked and backlog work, projected labor hours and overhead trends.
- Participate in internal/external audits and provide follow‑up information.
- Coordinate with accounting group on billing best practices and invoice timeliness.
- Require reliable transportation and may require periodic travel.
- Maintain regular and thorough communication with the SPW RC.
- Minimum of 7 years of practicing accounting and finance support.
- Prior experience with consolidated reporting covering multiple projects.
- Construction industry experience.
- BS in Accounting or related field (finance, audit, tax).
- Proficiency with accounting software application.
- Knowledge in Oracle EPM related program a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, and critical thinking.
