Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (with accounting coursework)
- 5+ years of professional accounting or finance experience post-degree
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and month-end close processes
- Experience preparing and posting journal entries
- Experience performing account reconciliations with strong attention to detail
- Moderate to strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Ability to work independently with a high level of ownership and accountability
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and strong internal controls
- Experience in Healthcare or Big4
- Experience in UG Audits/ Grants and Research
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- CPA or CMA certification (or progress toward certification)
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Experience with Workday or similar ERP systems
- Experience in healthcare or hospital systems
- Experience supporting financial reporting packages (monthly, quarterly, annual)
Job Description
The Accountant II supports the accounting operations for a hospital by performing day-to-day accounting activities and contributing to the monthly close process. This role works with a high level of independence while partnering closely with senior accountants and leadership to ensure accuracy, compliance, and strong financial controls. This individual is responsible for preparing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and ensuring all balances are properly accounted for as part of the month-end close.
The Accountant II will also support the preparation of financial reporting packages for both internal leadership and external stakeholders.
Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to identify discrepancies and maintain accurate records.
