Director of Accounting

My client, a large, established organization in the infrastructure and essential services sector is seeking an Accounting Director to lead capital asset reporting, financial planning support, and a team of accounting professionals. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with operational leaders, drive process improvements, and oversee the accounting and reporting of significant capital investments.

This role is ideal for a technically strong CPA with leadership experience, a foundation in public accounting, and expertise in capital asset accounting and financial reporting.

• Lead the accurate, timely, and complete accounting and reporting of capital assets from project inception through asset retirement.
• Partner with project management, operations, and senior leadership teams to support long-term financial planning and strategic initiatives.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual capital accounting processes, reporting, and variance analysis.
• Provide financial support, analysis, and reporting related to capital projects and operational activities.
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements related to capital assets.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and internal controls.
• Develop and monitor key performance metrics to drive department performance and continuous improvement.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
• Support audits and financial reporting requirements while serving as a subject matter expert in capital accounting matters.
• Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment of accounting practices with business objectives.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required (MBA preferred)
• CPA required.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting responsibilities.
• Prior experience in audit and financial reporting environments.
• Demonstrated management experience with a track record of coaching, mentoring, and developing teams.
• Strong background in capital asset accounting and reporting.
• Experience leading process improvement initiatives and implementing operational efficiencies.
• Advanced knowledge of IFRS and understanding of key differences between IFRS and U.S. GAAP.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Experience with large ERP systems and financial planning tools preferred.
• Industry experience within utilities, infrastructure, energy, construction, or other capital-intensive environments is highly desirable.
• Big 4 public accounting foundation preferred.
