Tax Director
Progressive, highly profitable CPA firm seeks a Tax Director with over 8 years recent public accounting tax experience, including preparing and reviewing complex tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts, as well as financial statement experience and year‑end tax planning. Active CPA required.
Key qualifications include multi‑state compliance knowledge, experience in retirement planning, Quick Books expertise, and proficiency with tax software such as Ultratax, Thomson Reuters, and Microsoft Office. Strong communication, analytical, problem‑solving, and project‑management skills are essential.
Responsibilities- Serve as client’s trusted advisor, demonstrating knowledge of industry trends, identifying client issues and conflicts, and proactively communicating solution options.
- Manage staff on engagement deliverables, conduct technical and strategic reviews, and ensure quality control standards are met.
- Review complex tax returns—including international, federal, and multi‑state returns—for C‑Corporations, S‑Corporations, partnerships, high‑net‑worth individuals, trusts and estates, and foundations.
- Understand clients’ goals and provide recommendations and guidance to achieve those goals and identify growth opportunities.
- Research tax issues and provide guidance to clients.
- Work closely with staff, mentoring, coaching, training, supervising, and evaluating performance.
- Foster a team environment, demonstrating support of management decisions and building a positive culture.
- Engage in business development and client relationship management activities.
- Assist department principals in strategic development of the department.
- Maintain integrity, dependability, and trustworthiness in all client and team interactions.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred in Accounting, Taxation or related field. - 7–10 years technical tax experience in public accounting.
- 4+ years of management/supervisory experience.
- Active CPA or equivalent certification.
- Ability to manage all aspects of client engagements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all organization levels.
- Proficient with technology, including RIA Checkpoint, Thomson Reuters full suite (Ultra Tax, Work papers, Practice CS, File Cabinet), Quick Books, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
- Strong leadership, operational and project‑management skills with effective time management.
