A growing manufacturing organization in the Greater Phoenix area is seeking a highly skilled Plant Controller to lead all plant-level accounting and financial operations. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with U.S. GAAP, overseeing cost accounting functions, managing the month-end close process, and supporting revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 standards.
The ideal candidate will bring strong manufacturing finance experience, deep expertise in cost accounting, and a proven track record of partnering with operations leadership to improve profitability, inventory management, and operational performance.
Manufacturing experience is required and candidates without manufacturing accounting experience will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all plant accounting activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain integrity of the General Ledger and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyze financial results, identify variances, and provide actionable recommendations to leadership.
- Ensure proper accounting treatment for transactions and adherence to internal controls.
- Own all aspects of standard costing, inventory valuation, and cost accounting processes.
- Analyze manufacturing variances including labor, overhead, material usage, scrap, and production efficiencies.
- Maintain standard cost systems and oversee annual cost roll processes.
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Production leadership to identify cost savings opportunities and improve margins.
- Monitor inventory controls, cycle count programs, and physical inventory processes.
- Evaluate inventory reserves, obsolescence, and excess inventory exposure.
- Direct and manage the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and appropriately documented.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to shorten close timelines and enhance reporting accuracy.
- Ensure proper revenue recognition practices in accordance with ASC 606.
- Review customer contracts and assess revenue recognition implications.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and Executive Leadership regarding contract accounting matters.
- Maintain documentation supporting revenue recognition conclusions and audit requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial governance processes.
- Support external audits, internal audits, and compliance reviews.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Serve as a strategic business partner to Plant Leadership and Executive Management.
- Develop financial models, forecasts, budgets, and operational performance metrics.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff as applicable.
- Present financial performance, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong cost accounting experience in a manufacturing setting is required.

- Experience supporting audits and maintaining internal controls.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
- Multi-site manufacturing experience.
- Experience with ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Epicor, Infor, or similar manufacturing systems.
- Experience supporting lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate is a hands‑on manufacturing finance leader who can operate strategically while remaining detail‑oriented. They possess a deep understanding of plant operations, cost accounting, inventory controls, and financial reporting, and are comfortable partnering with operational leaders to drive performance and profitability.
Must have recent manufacturing accounting experience with significant exposure to cost accounting, GAAP compliance, General Ledger management, Month-End Close, and ASC 606 revenue recognition.
