The Senior Accountant is a key member of the finance team responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting within a project‑based construction environment. This role partners closely with finance leadership and operational teams to provide financial insights that support strategic decision‑making, optimize project performance, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

What you will be doing
  • Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month‑end close processes.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Perform job‑cost accounting, variance analysis, and project profitability tracking.
  • Support revenue recognition processes in accordance with GAAP and ASC 606, including percentage‑of‑completion accounting.
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations teams on cost forecasting and change‑order accounting.
  • Monitor work‑in‑progress (WIP), billing, and collections to support healthy cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Assist with external audits, tax filings, and ESOP‑related accounting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and maximize the effectiveness of accounting systems.

  • Delivering reliable job‑cost and project financial data that supports informed business decisions.
  • Maintaining well‑reconciled accounts with minimal audit adjustments.
  • Contributing to effective cash flow management and forecasting.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to financial processes, reporting, and controls.
  • Building strong partnerships with cross‑functional teams.
What you must have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in construction or project‑based accounting environments.
  • Strong understanding of job‑cost accounting and revenue recognition methodologies.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (such as Vista, HCSS, or similar ERP platforms) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Nice to have
  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Experience working for an ESOP or employee‑owned organization.
  • Familiarity with construction industry regulations, including prevailing wage and transportation‑related projects.
  • Experience with ERP implementations, system optimization, or process improvement initiatives.
