The Role

The Divisional Accountant is an accounting specialist embedded within our project operations, serving as the connection between project management teams and the accounting department. This role is focused on construction accounting functions - accrual calculations, reconciliations, and project financial analysis while ensuring PMs and accounting stay aligned on project performance, process expectations, and financial compliance. Project managers retain ownership of their project budgets and financial outcomes;

the Divisional Accountant brings the accounting depth to support, analyze, and validate those numbers accurately. This role is based in-office 5 days a week with flexible hours between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

What you will accomplish
  • Serve as the primary liaison between assigned project managers and the accounting department - attending project meetings, budget reviews, and accounting team meetings to ensure alignment on project financials, process changes, and expectations on both sides.
  • Deliver timely WIP reporting, job cost reporting, and profitability analysis to PMs and leadership, surfacing trends and margin erosion early.
  • Conduct monthly budget-to-actual analysis for each assigned project, identifying cost variances and communicating findings clearly to project managers and accounting leadership.
  • Calculate, review, and reconcile monthly cost accruals - including sales tax, insurance, and other project-level charges - ensuring amounts are accurate and correctly applied to each job.
  • Reconcile recurring monthly charges entered manually by accounting and validate their accuracy against project activity, contract terms, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate client AR follow-up, subcontractor and non-commitment payments, and reconciliation of accounting and operations records.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Prepare and maintain WIP schedules and support revenue recognition under percentage-of-completion or completed contract methods.
  • Maintain labor rates and cost code mapping and support ERP and project accounting system optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, company procedures, payment requirements and, when applicable, prevailing wage and certified payroll tracking.
  • Support audits and maintain organized project financial records.
What we would like you to have
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 2 years of accounting experience; construction or general contracting preferred.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA a plus.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and construction revenue recognition.
  • Experience with job cost, WIP, and project-based accounting.
  • Experience with Procore and Oracle Fusion, or similar ERP or project accounting systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis.
  • Experience presenting financial data to non-finance audiences such as project managers and operations leaders.
  • Comfort engaging in project reviews - asking questions, challenging cost assumptions, and driving clarity on numbers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective written and verbal communication in English.
  • Mastery with AI tools used in business,…
