Why This Accounting Job Is Different

Most accounting jobs end at the number. This one does not.

Founded in 1979, Christian Care Companies is Arizona's largest nonprofit provider of senior housing and services. We serve approximately 2,200 residents across six campuses through independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, home health, and HUD-supported housing. Seventeen legal entities, roughly $85 million in annual revenue.

Every meal served, every apartment maintained, and every hour of care given is paid for with money this department records, protects, and reports on. When the close is clean and the controls good, the people who live with us keep getting the services they need. That is the job.

It is also a leadership role. You will lead four people and be a regular partner to campus leaders who are not accountants. We are looking for technical strength and for someone who builds a capable, unified team.

• Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close across all entities, and deliver it complete, accurate, and on time.
• Lead and develop a team of four: two Senior Accountants, an Accounts Payable Manager, and a Medicaid Biller.
• Maintain the general ledger, review balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure transactions are recorded timely.
• Oversee intercompany accounting across 17 entities, accounts payable, and the accounting side of Medicaid billing.
• Operate and document internal controls, including approval workflows and system access in Yardi.
• Prepare schedules and support for the annual audit, 990 tax filings, and for HUD and federal award reporting where it applies.
• Support the annual budget and explain variances in language an operating leader can act on.
• Be the finance partner campus business office managers and Vice Presidents can call.

The technical side

• Bachelor's degree in accounting required. A bachelor’s degree in finance, or a closely related field, may be considered if you have the requisite accounting leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Eight or more years of progressive accounting experience, including owning a monthly close.
• Five or more years supervising accounting staff.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and a working understanding of internal controls and segregation of duties.
• Multi-entity accounting, including intercompany transactions.
• Strong Excel.
• CPA strongly preferred, not required.
• Nonprofit accounting, senior living, healthcare, HUD-supported housing, Yardi, Single Audit, or AHCCCS experience is a plus.

The leadership side

• You develop people, and your department gets better.
• You stay steady through close, audit, and budget season, and when a process changes.
• You explain financial information clearly to people who do not work in finance.
• You say the hard thing early and kindly, and you correct privately.
• You ask instead of guessing, and you follow through without a reminder.

Employment is contingent on a pre-employment background check. A valid Arizona driver's license and reliable transportation are required for occasional campus travel.
