Job Summary:The State of Arizona Research Library, a branch of the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, has an opening for a Librarian III - Cataloging Librarian. Our exceptional team of professionals and paraprofessional staff are tasked with “Preserving Arizona, Providing Access” through the stewardship of current and historically significant physical collections (Arizona Collection, Arizona Newspapers, Federal and State Documents, Law, and Maps) and digital collections (Arizona Memory Project, Reading Arizona).

Responsibilities:
- Perform cataloging and metadata creation for items in the library's physical collections, adhering to national standards (MARC, RDA, Library of Congress Subject Headings).
- Monitor and maintain the accuracy of the bibliographic and authority records in our Integrated Library System (Polaris/Vega Discover).
- Contribute authority records to the Library of Congress’ Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO).
- Train and support collection managers and staff on copy-cataloging and derivative-cataloging processes.
- Stay up to date on latest developments in cataloging and metadata standards, and ensure best practices and procedures are followed from acquisition to de-accession.
- Oversee the technical services processes related to managing the library's physical collections, and work with staff to standardize processes across collections.
- Take one or more shifts in the rotation of back‑up shifts in support of the Lead Reference Librarian.
This position supports all Research Library staff, and reports to the Research Library Administrator. This position must work collaboratively with Research Library team members. This is a full‑time, onsite position consisting of a 40‑hour work week (8 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday). This position requires you to have an updated fingerprint card on file. The position requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds. This position must have a valid Arizona driver’s license, be able to drive a state vehicle, and be willing and able to travel both in and out of state.
Job Duties:- Bibliographic and Metadata Services: Manages the bibliographic database of the Research Library collections and provides cataloging and metadata support, data cleanup, and problem‑solving; implements cataloging and metadata standards; coordinates physical processing, binding, repair and preservation of physical items; manages authority control for ILS; serves as NACO coordinator.
- Training: Manages training of staff in cataloging and metadata standards; coordinates with collection managers to ensure standard practices and procedures from acquisition to de‑accession.
- Back‑up Support: All librarians on staff are included in a rotation of back‑up shifts in support of the Lead Reference Librarian. Responsibilities include being on‑site and available to pull items from the closed stacks upon request. In the absence of the Lead Reference Librarian, the assigned back‑up provides reference assistance to researchers.
