Media Clerk
Salary placement range= $17.27 to $21.24. grade 108 or 110 depending on level of education.
This position is split between Edison and Garfield
As a condition of employment, all new hires must obtain and maintain a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The Media Clerk will be responsible for carrying out the Media Center tasks and services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Circulation and Collection Maintenance
Performance Objective and Success Standards:
Ensure the library collection is accessible, organized, and accurately tracked through efficient check-in/out processes and physical shelf management.
- Achieve 100% accuracy in circulation records and database entries for all borrowed and returned materials.
- Maintain a "shelf-ready" environment where returned books and new acquisitions are re-shelved within 24–48 hours of receipt.
- Complete an annual 100% inventory of books, AV equipment, and supplies with documented reconciliation of discrepancies.
Technical Processing and Database Management
Performance Objective and Success Standards:
Manage the lifecycle of media materials—from cataloging new arrivals to processing discards—to maintain a current and reliable searchable database.
- Maintain an up-to-date shelf list and card catalog (print/electronic) with zero backlog of unfiled cards or unentered data.
- Ensure all physical materials are correctly outfitted with pockets and cards according to district labeling standards.
- Generate quarterly "needs assessment" reports suggesting collection gaps based on processing trends and discarded material volume.
Instructional Support and Reference Services
Performance Objective and Success Standards:
Facilitate information literacy by assisting students and staff in locating resources and delivering engaging literary programming.
- Achieve a high satisfaction rating from teachers regarding the effectiveness of library skill instruction and resource sourcing.
- Maintain a consistent, pre-approved schedule of "story hours" or literature introductions that align with curriculum goals.
- Successfully fulfill 95% of on-site resource requests immediately, with off-site requests initiated within one business day.
Media Center Coordination and Scheduling
Performance Objective and Success Standards:
Optimize the utilization of the Media Center's physical space and audiovisual equipment through collaborative scheduling and logistics.
- Maintain a master calendar that reflects zero double-bookings for library space usage among various faculty and student groups.
- Ensure all AV materials and equipment are functional, accounted for, and distributed to classrooms by the requested delivery time.
- Demonstrate active participation in 100% of scheduled faculty meetings and mandatory district technology training sessions.
Professional Compliance and Operational Support
Performance Objective and Success Standards:
Adhere to all legal, district, and administrative protocols to ensure the safe and professional operation of the Media Center.
- Maintain an attendance record that meets or exceeds district reliability standards for classified staff.
- Demonstrate 100% compliance with State Law and District policies during annual performance reviews.
- Complete all "other duties" assigned by the Principal or Media Resource Specialist within the requested timeframe and specifications.
Minimum Education and/or
Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- For Grade 6:
Proof of passing a state approved paraprofessional assessment (grade
6). - For Grade 8:
An Associate's degree or the completion of 60 college credits (grade
8).
Preferred Education and/or
Experience:
- Enrollment in, or completion, of Library Technology Program at the community college level preferred.
- Experience in school Media Center functions (Children's books, cataloging, alphabetizing, organizing, filing, typing) preferred.
- Computer skills/experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Computer-assisted library management programs (helpful).
