One Permanent Full Time Position.
We are seeking an innovative and results‑oriented individual to join our Commercial Management team as a Commercial Asset Management Specialist, US Renewables. Reporting to the Sr. Specialist, US Renewables, you will proactively identify commercial risks and opportunities for existing assets, develop and implement risk‑management strategies, and deliver the value‑add targets for each asset. You will manage day‑to‑day relationships with counter parties, oversee reporting, optimize asset performance, ensure compliance, and serve as the lead point of contact with legal, regulatory, finance, and government entities.
You may also provide key input to due diligence for potential acquisitions.
- Coordinate internal subject‑matter‑expert teams to optimize value for the assigned asset and generation fleet.
- Steer interactions with SMEs – operations, legal, credit, regulatory, finance, environmental, external suppliers, off‑takers, and regulators – on commercial activities that generate revenue, reduce costs, or mitigate risks.
- Negotiate commercial contracts with external third parties for supplies and services, such as PPAs, REC contracts, and long‑term service agreements.
- Manage relationships with external stakeholders and partners, consulting with internal stakeholders.
- Identify and analyze opportunities related to current or future commercial management, monitor external trends, and develop action strategies.
- Provide commercial support on operating and capital investment issues, including cost/benefit analysis.
- Recommend and lead efforts to resolve disputes with counter parties and partners, serving as primary contact.
- Lead and/or report on opportunities, challenges, and issues at regular stakeholder meetings.
- Ensure compliance with all related commercial agreements based on knowledge of relevant commercial environments.
- Complete ad‑hoc special projects or initiatives related to specific assets or common initiatives across all assets.
- Manage commercial reporting and functions with asset partners.
- Participate in evaluating new assets or opportunities identified by Business Development for acquisition or development.
- Degree in Engineering, Finance, Commerce or Economics; a Master’s or working toward a Master’s considered an asset.
- A professional designation is considered an asset.
- 3+ years in an operational, commercial, engineering, business development, or financial and analytical role; preferably in the deregulated electricity industry.
- Knowledge or experience with power markets, power generation, power marketing, regulatory, commodities, transmission/transport agreements, and power purchase agreements.
- Experience with renewable projects considered a strong asset.
- Understanding of power markets, electricity generating plants, and plant operations for each region where the asset is situated.
- Experience working with legal agreements or contracts.
- Commercial management or negotiating experience.
- Financial analysis skills, familiarity with financial statements, budgets, forecasting, and asset earnings profiles.
- Project management experience and ability to interface with all organizational levels.
- Ability to travel within North America to plant sites and other offices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional presentation and representation skills.
- Adept at working with multiple internal and external stakeholders on multidisciplinary issues and opportunities.
- Initiative and ability to handle ambiguity.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Capacity to manage a dynamic workload.
- Provide proactive recommendations to senior management to resolve issues in the best interests of Capital Power.
- Hybrid role with three (3) days in the office.
- Successful candidate must be located in Phoenix, AZ.
