Business Analyst, Financial Analyst
Overview
The Merchandise Planning Analyst leads and coordinates key planning, forecasting and reporting processes, analyzing business initiatives to identify opportunities and risks and drive business results for the Merchandising department. The Analyst utilizes an analytical/financial background to provide insights and recommendations to cross‑functional partners, and works with merchandising leadership to improve operational and financial performance.
Responsibilities- Assist in the development of long‑range financial planning and annual budgets, including building financial models to support accurate planning and influence decision making.
- Support forecast processes, summarizing highlights, business drivers, risks, and opportunities for the merchandising department.
- Provide analysis and recommendations to help merchants achieve department revenue and profit goals.
- Conduct regular reviews of pricing, promotion, and assortment to support decision making.
- Execute pre‑post analysis of merchandising tests.
- Prepare weekly and monthly presentations for merchandising leadership.
- Generate weekly promotional effectiveness reports and ad planning metrics.
- Report on key business metrics, including department/category performance analysis.
- Partner with the business to understand variances from forecast and budget and relay ongoing implications.
- Serve as project lead for ad‑hoc projects, managing objectives, deliverables, and milestones with minimal supervision.
- Support the manager in coaching and developing junior team members.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in financial analysis.
- Retail or grocery industry experience preferred.
- Experience with budgeting, planning, modeling, and forecasting systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical and decision‑making skills, and ability to work on cross‑functional teams.
