Job Overview
CDM Smith is actively seeking experienced Inspectors to deliver independent oversight of various construction projects for Federal agencies such as USACE, AFCEC, and NAVFAC. This is a pipeline position intended for upcoming projects, where you can leverage your broad construction knowledge to meet client needs while ensuring successful, safe, and compliant project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects, including civil structures like roads, dams, bridges, and facilities, to verify compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
- Document inspection results, noting deficiencies, structural conditions, and any corrective actions needed.
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material certifications in coordination with engineering and project management teams.
- Monitor construction progress and maintain detailed daily reports, deficiency notices, and project status updates.
- Inspect construction materials and conduct testing processes such as concrete breaks and compaction testing to ensure compliance.
- Enforce safety, environmental, and quality control standards throughout the construction process.
- Conduct site investigations and review data, including maps and reports, as needed.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings, design reviews, safety meetings, and project closeout activities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant guidelines, including permits and safety regulations, and deliver necessary technical documentation.
- Train and mentor junior construction professionals, providing technical advice and acting as a liaison among contractors, engineers, and clients.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- At least 5 years of relevant construction experience.
- Willingness to travel domestically, with potential for overseas travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Federal or DoD projects (NAVFAC, USACE, or Air Force CE) is highly desirable.
- Knowledge in both vertical and horizontal construction.
- Familiarity with federal acquisition practices and construction specifications.
Skills and Abilities
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass a federal background check.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.

Salary and Benefits
Pay Range: $27.30 - $54.60 per hour. Additional bonuses may apply.
Location and Travel
Field location 100% required. Driver's license mandatory.
