S&S Paving & Construction is seeking an experienced and versatile Universal Equipment Operator to join our team. This role is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a variety of heavy equipment used in paving, grading, and site development projects. The ideal candidate is highly skilled, adaptable, and capable of operating multiple types of equipment to support project needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a variety of heavy equipment, including loaders, skid steers, backhoes, and scrapers.
  • Perform grading, material handling, excavation, and site preparation tasks.
  • Assist with rough and finish grading to meet project specifications.
  • Work closely with grade checkers, foremen, and crews to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Load, transport, and grade materials such as dirt, aggregate, and asphalt.
  • Interpret construction plans, grade stakes, and job site instructions.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform routine maintenance.
  • Identify and report mechanical issues or safety concerns.
  • Maintain clean and organized equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Support crew operations as needed to meet project deadlines.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment.
  • Proven experience with loaders, Gannons, skid steers, backhoes, and scrapers.
  • Strong understanding of grading, excavation, and site development.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and grade stakes preferred.
  • Experience with GPS machine control is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred but not required).
  • Versatility and adaptability across multiple equipment types.
  • Strong attention to detail and job site awareness.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
  • Dependability and strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and operate equipment for long periods.
  • Ability to climb in and out of equipment safely.
  • Ability to perform physical labor when needed, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Outdoor construction sites with exposure to heavy machinery, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and teamwork.
