Position Summary
The employee performs job site observations of electrical systems to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, designs, codes, standards, and regulations. The employee documents site and field conditions and participates in discussions to determine appropriate resolution to nonconformance. The employee should have advanced knowledge of industry codes, guides and standards. The role allows moderate independence with occasional supervision and mentoring.
Essential Job Functions- Perform job site observations to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, designs, codes, standards, and regulations.
- Document site and field conditions and participate in discussions to determine appropriate resolution to nonconformance.
- Provide site observation technical information and assistance to engineers or team leaders.
- Make recommendations regarding the feasibility of certain systems or equipment and their application.
- Attend preliminary job meetings and help evaluate scope of work to be performed.
- Assist in the preparation of system layout, detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications based upon site observation.
- Read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications.
- Prepare clear and accurate responses and reports to contractors submitting documents for review.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
Training, Licenses and Certifications
- Discipline‑specific certifications preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
Experience
- 3+ years of experience in the design, installation and construction administration of systems.
- Relevant site observation or inspection experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of the installation and construction administration of electrical systems.
- Advanced knowledge of industry codes, guides and standards.
- Ability to work with moderate independence; occasional supervision may be required.
- Proficient with computer database tools (e.g., EVOCO, Plan Grid).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Effective problem‑solving skills.
- Adaptability to changing work environments, priorities, and organizational needs.
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Self‑starter, proactive, and willing to assist others when needed.
- Ability to take direction and constructive criticism from others.
- Reliability and predictability in carrying out job functions.
- Significant travel required – approximately 50% of time.
- Flexibility to travel with little notice.
- Ability to work varying shift times depending on the project (night or weekends).
