Role DescriptionMAVCO Building Group is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our growing team in Phoenix, Arizona.
This is a full-time, hybrid position responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial drywall & paint projects. The Senior Estimator will perform quantity takeoffs, develop budgets, solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier pricing, prepare proposals, and work closely with operations to ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to project execution.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with strong technical estimating skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and a collaborative mindset. This individual will play a key role in helping secure profitable work while supporting continuous improvement throughout the estimating process.
Responsibilities- Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and comprehensive cost estimates for drywall and related scopes of work.
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to identify project requirements and potential risks.
- Develop budgets, pricing strategies, and value engineering recommendations.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate pricing from subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Prepare professional bid proposals and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with project management and operations teams during project turnover.
- Assist with mentoring and supporting junior estimators as needed.
- Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and bid documentation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, general contractors, suppliers, and trade partners.
- Manage multiple bids and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of estimating experience in commercial construction.
- Experience estimating drywall & paint projects is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, labor production rates, and estimating principles.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, contracts, and construction documents.
- Proven ability to prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and accurate cost estimates.
- Strong budgeting, cost analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience preparing proposals and bid packages.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Proficiency with construction estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bachelor s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
