The Inspection Supervisor - Building coordinates and supervises building inspection activities and performs highly skilled, technical inspection work to determine compliance with building codes and related ordinances.

We Require

  • Five years of performing building inspections, plan reviews, or closely related engineering and construction experience

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Related post‑secondary education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

Other Requirements

  • Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

  • Possession of International Code Council (ICC) Residential Building Inspector (B1) and Commercial Building Inspector (B2) certifications, or have the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire

We Also Value

  • College coursework in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Planning, or a closely related field

  • Residential and commercial building inspection-related experience

  • Leadership or supervisory experience

  • Multiple ICC certifications for residential or commercial inspections or plans examiner

Job Contributions

  • Supervise, train, oversee, and coordinate the activities of building inspectors to determine code compliance of permitted construction

  • Assign scheduled inspections to inspectors daily based on coverage, inspector experience, and level of project complexity

  • Supervise building inspections staff to ensure compliance with established policies, processes, and guidelines

  • Coordinate with the Inspection Manager, Building Official, Plan Reviewers, and other staff as appropriate to interpret and implement code requirements, and detect deficiencies or deviations from approved plans

  • Explain code interpretations and requirements to contractors, owners, and developers, address compliance problems, and resolve conflicts between customers and staff to ensure a positive outcome in a professional manner

  • Investigate complaints regarding unauthorized or unsafe building use or construction, and issue stop-work orders as necessary

  • Coordinate with the Inspection Manager on production of performance evaluations and development plans for inspection staff, establish employee performance plans, and evaluate the work of inspection staff

  • Inspect construction work to determine compliance with building, fire, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical codes and conformance to approved drawings and specifications
