Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a government security clearance.
- Education:
attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by the U.S. Department of Education may be credited. - Foreign education: foreign degrees must be evaluated by a recognized private organization and deemed equivalent to an accredited U.S. program, or full credit must be given for courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
- Licensure: possess and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted professional dental license and a DEA license.
- Malpractice insurance: must hold active malpractice insurance.
- Dental privileges: apply for and maintain approved dental privileges at WEHC.
- Certificates: maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
- Experience:
practiced clinically for at least 12 months within the past three years. - Continuing education: maintain documentation of continuing dental education.
- Immunizations: provide evidence of MMR, Hep B, Tdap, Polio, TB test results, and seasonal influenza vaccination.
Shift types and times:
- 10‑hour shifts:
1. Open 07:00–17:30; 2. 07:30–18:00; 3. 08:30–19:00; 4. 08:00–16:30. - 8‑hour shifts:
1. Open 07:00–15:30; 2. 08:00–16:30; 3. 10:30–19:00; 4. 08:00–16:30. - Monday to Friday (except federal holidays), normally between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm.
- Interview and collect pertinent health data from patients.
- Review past medical history.
- Evaluate and assess patient condition and document in a legible manner.
- Establish patient treatment plans.
- Ensure necessary patient follow‑up.
- Conduct case conferences with IHS staff, patient, and/or guardian as necessary.
- Follow IHS guidelines for Patient Referred Care.
- Provide patient care in assigned duty area.
- Perform diagnostic examinations, screenings, and periodic checks.
- Provide prophylaxis, including hand scaling and use of ultrasonic instruments.
- Deliver emergency care diagnosis and treatment.
- Treat oral infections.
- Offer preventive services—sealants, fluoride, oral hygiene instruction.
- Perform restorative care—simple and complex.
- Provide endodontic procedures—anterior and posterior.
- Diagnose, treat, surgically provide periodontal care, and administer chemical treatments.
- Carry out oral surgery—simple and surgical extractions, partial impactions, soft tissue and biopsy procedures.
- Administer pediatric dentistry procedures—pulpotomies, pulpectomies, stainless steel crowns.
- Place crowns and bridges—single and multiple units.
- Fit removable prosthetics.
- Interpret radiographic images—periapical, bite‑wing, panorex, occlusal, extraoral, soft tissue.
- Provide adjunctive general services—x‑rays, fluoride treatments, etc.
- Chart patient dental and medical records—history, exam, progress, referrals.
- Perform limited laboratory procedures.
- Use limited oral medication for dental anxiety.
- Prescribe medication as necessary.
- Use infection control practices per accreditation standards, IHS policy, OSHA, and other regulations.
- Communicate in English with sufficient clarity by speaking, reading, and writing.
- Work independently and provide services in a professional and respectful manner.
- Respect patients’ basic rights including personal dignity.
- Maintain continuous service without interruption unless authorized by Contracting Officer.
- Do not collect patient data for personal research or case studies.
- Do not remove PHI/PII electronically from the facility or export to personal accounts.
- Complete required agency training—Information Technology Security, HIPAA/HIM, and related topics.
- Remain in full compliance with agency bylaws, policy, procedures, and regulations.
