Position: Architect 1

CDM Smith is looking for an Architect 1 to join our team in the Phoenix office in 2026! You'll be working with a dynamic team of industry leading architects on a diverse portfolio of public, federal, and industrial projects. Are you ready to take the next step in your career and gain diverse AXP experience working with experienced supervisors? CDM Smith's architectural experience encompasses an array of services, including: building space programming, code compliance research, sustainability/green building design, schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration, building commissioning, value engineering and virtual design and construction.

Projects include new construction, building additions, alterations, interior space planning and fit‑out, and remodels.

Responsibilities

Prepares and produces basic complexity construction contract documents, using approved methods and standards under general supervision. Prepares and produces basic complexity design presentation materials, using approved methods and standards. Coordinates building design formulation and development of construction contract documents with architectural and engineering staff. Collects background information and documentation including "as - built" data and field survey work, as necessary. Researches construction materials, technologies and methodologies as directed.

Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture.
  • 0 years experience. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Skills and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of technologies and methodologies in the use of construction materials.
  • Basic knowledge of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), preferably AutoCAD, and familiarity with modeling and rendering software programs.
  • Solid knowledge of basic business office software (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Revit and/or Sketchup.
