Technical Designer; Captain

Your Role

Gensler Phoenix is currently seeking an experienced Technical Designer (Job Captain) with a successful track record and well‑rounded, broad architectural background with project experience in multiple typologies, including workplace, hospitality and multifamily.

• Produce accurate technical and contract documentation for construction projects.
• Provide project team coordination for incorporating design intent into construction documentation, assign tasks, and lead technical drawings.
• Participate in construction administration, evaluate bids, conduct site visits, address technical issues and maintain quality control during construction.
• Coordinate and direct consultants and specification writers to meet overall project objectives.
• Collaborate with contractors, fabricators and regulatory agencies / 3rd party teams.
• Utilize hand sketches and 3D software, and Revit to communicate design concepts.

• 5‑10 years of related professional experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field.
• Experience in leading workplace, hospitality and multifamily projects preferred.
• Experience with base building and/or build‑to‑suits required, with interiors experience preferred.
• Knowledge of building codes, standards, zoning, jurisdictional processes, building materials, building structures, specifications, construction techniques and building envelopes a plus.
• Knowledge of sustainable design strategies.
• Experience in construction document preparation and construction administration.
• Strong leadership, organizational, verbal and written communication, and relationship management skills.
• Proficiency in Revit required; and experience in AutoCAD, Adobe CS, Rhinoceros, Sketch Up, and other 3D modeling software a plus.
• On the path to licensure preferred.
