The Center for Clinical Skills and Assessments is currently seeking a faculty Clinical Skills Evaluator for the Doctoring Program to teach and assess interviewing and physical exam skills to 1st and/or 2nd year UA medical students in a structured setting using standardized patients (SP). The Center is outfitted with video monitoring equipment in each of the 24 exam rooms. The space is equipped with Learning Space, a web-based platform that records SP encounters and enables faculty to view them live and students to review them after the event, facilitating feedback and assessment.
During each of the blocks, there is a concentration on a specific group of organ systems, except in the first block, when a cursory introduction to medical interviewing and the physical examination is presented. Therefore, the interview and physical exam elements emphasized are focused on those organ systems.
The first year Doctoring Course has been divided into blocks:
* Block 1:
Molecular Bases and Life and Disease (MBLD)
* Block 2:
Musculoskeletal Neurologic (MSNS
1)
* Block 3:
Neurological Sciences (NS
2)
* Block 4 Cardiovascular Hematology (CV-Heme)
* Block 5:
Pulmonary Renal Acid Base (PRAB)
With the academic year beginning the 1st week in July and ending mid-May. Year 2 is compressed, beginning the 2nd week of July and ending mid-December. The second year Doctoring Course has been divided into blocks:
* Block 1: GI, metabolism, Diabetes, Nutritional Science (GIMDN)
* Block 2:
Reproduction, Endocrine, Behavior through the life span (REBLS)
The class of 130 students has been divided into sections, with 1/3 attending on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoon from 12:45-5:45 pm, approximately every other week. Each of these groups is further divided into cohorts of three students each and assigned to a physician coach (Cohort Faculty). Assigned student-faculty pairings remain the same for the semester to ensure each student is monitored for adequate progress.
Module Faculty members also assist in teaching Modules. Module Faculty are present at each session and are responsible for 6 students.
The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in teaching, clinical service, and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.

Duties & Responsibilities
* Attend all assigned Clinical Skills & Assessment Sessions.
* Teach interviewing and physical exam skills to 1st and/or 2nd year UA medical students in a structured setting using standardized patients (SP).
* Prepare for each session by completing required reading and viewing of video of the portions of the physical exam that will be practiced at that particular session.
* Direct student learning with a focus on proficient history taking using Patient-Centered Interviewing techniques. (including emotion seeking and emotion validation tools and motivational interview tools)
* Demonstrate physical examinations with efficiency and score students accurately.
* Develop documentation skills to promote concise, precise, valid entries into the medical record.
* Proficiently navigate and utilize SharePoint website and Learning Space application to access videos, view cases, and enter assessments and evaluations.
* Demonstrate approach to critical thinking to enable the student to develop both broad and then focused differentials based on the standardized patient (SP) presentations.
* Additional duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
* MD or DO.
* Board Certified at the time of appointment.
* Licensed to practice medicine in Arizona at the time of appointment.
* Dedicated to delivery of patient-centered medicine.
