SUMMARYThe Summer Camp Onsite Assistant ensures implementation of services within the Learning Division at Arizona Science Center to inspire, educate, and engage people of all ages through science, and to advance educational leadership, quality teaching, parent and community support, and student engagement for success in learning. The Summer Camp Onsite Assistant will assist the Instructor with preparing pre-planned fun, engaging investigations and demonstrations during seasonal camp programs that foster inquiry and research-based learning.
The Summer Camp Onsite Assistant will help manage and supervise a group of 15‑25 school‑aged guests. The Summer Camp Onsite Assistant may be asked to participate in other activities to further educational goals of the Science Center.
If hired, individuals are required to attend one of the two virtual training sessions offered, as well as the entirety of the week‑long in person training session prior to the start of the summer camp season. Dates are as follows:
- Saturday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m.‑12:00 p.m. Virtual Training Option 1
- Sunday, May 17 from 12:00 p.m.‑3:00 p.m. Virtual Training Option 2
- Tuesday, May 26‑Friday, May 29 from 9:00 a.m.‑4:00 p.m. In Person Training
- Thursday, May 28 from 4:00 p.m.‑6:00 p.m. Family Orientation Night
If hired, individuals must be available to work a minimum of three out of eight camp week sessions, with the ability to work more than the minimum preferred. Each camp week runs Monday through Friday, with schedules typically from 7:00 a.m.‑3:00 p.m. daily; 8:00 a.m.‑4:00 p.m. daily; 9:00 a.m.‑5:00 p.m. daily; or 10:00 a.m.‑6:00 p.m. daily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist Arizona Science Center in delivering its mission
- Creates a fun, enjoyable, and safe camp experience for children grades 1‑12 by leading them through games, activities, experiments, and investigations that foster inquiry and research‑based learning
- Helps in preparing daily activities to include using instructional materials, creative ideas and assigned supplies
- Sets up classroom for activities and cleans up after activities by cleaning tables, floors, counters, and chairs
- Assists the onsite Camp Instructor in supervising activities and monitoring children’s behaviors to ensure safety and appropriateness
- Always knows how many campers are in group and consistently checks to make sure all children are accounted for
- Communicates with co‑workers and Science Center team members in a professional and respectful manner
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp program
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports and daily attendance
- Knowledge of youth development concepts and strategies
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with an Instructor
- Enthusiasm for working with kids with patience & a sense of humor
- Able to think critically on their feet
- Punctuality
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as needed
