SUMMARY:

The Summer Camp Onsite Instructor ensures implementation of services within the Learning Division at Arizona Science Center to inspire, educate, and engage people of all ages through science, and to advance educational leadership, quality teaching, parent and community support, and student engagement for success in learning. The Summer Camp Onsite Instructor will prepare and present pre‑planned fun, engaging investigations and demonstrations during seasonal camp programs that foster inquiry and research‑based learning.

The Summer Camp Onsite Instructor will manage and supervise a group of 15–25 school‑aged guests. On occasion, the Summer Camp Onsite Instructor may be required to travel to different parts of the state to support offsite camps due to staff shortage, illness or other unforeseen circumstances. The Summer Camp Onsite Instructor will participate in other activities to further educational goals of the Science Center.

MANDATORY TRAINING DATES AND SCHEDULING EXPECTATIONS

If hired, individuals are required to attend one of the two virtual training sessions offered, as well as the entirety of the week‑long in person training session prior to the start of the summer camp season. Dates are as follows:

  • Saturday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Virtual Training Option 1
  • Sunday, May 17 from 12:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. Virtual Training Option 2
  • Tuesday, May 26–Friday, May 29 from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. In Person Training
  • Thursday, May 28 from 4:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. Family Orientation Night

If hired, individuals must be available to work a minimum of three out of eight camp week sessions, with the ability to work more than the minimum preferred. Each camp week runs Monday through Friday, with schedules typically from 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. daily; 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. daily; 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. daily; or 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. daily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Arizona Science Center in delivering its mission
  • Creates a fun, enjoyable, and safe camp experience for children grades 1‑12 by leading them through games, activities, experiments, and investigations that foster inquiry and research‑based learning
  • Prepares daily activities to include using instructional materials, creative ideas and assigned supplies
  • Sets up classroom for activities and cleans up after activities by cleaning tables, floors, counters, and chairs
  • Tracks daily and weekly attendance of campers
  • Maintain accurate program records, including incident reports
  • Is aware of all allergies in the group and is responsible for carrying epipens of campers
  • Always knows how many campers are in group and consistently checks to make sure all children are accounted for
  • Supervises activities and monitors children’s behaviors to ensure safety and appropriateness
  • Communicates with co‑workers, parents, and Science Center employees in a professional and respectful manner
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp program
