SUMMARY

The CAMP INNOVATION offsite instructor ensures the mission of the Arizona Science Center: to inspire, educate, and engage curious minds through science. As part of the CAMP INNOVATION team the Instructor will provide high‑quality STEM educational opportunities and experiences for camp participants outside of the museum, throughout the state of Arizona.

The offsite Instructor will prepare and organize pre‑planned engaging lessons and activities, they will ensure the safety of, skill achievement and general well‑being of the camp participants. The offsite Instructor provides quality teaching to 15-25 school‑aged camp participants. The offsite Instructor will travel throughout the state of Arizona to various locations including libraries, theaters, schools, Native communities and science centers. This position is a multi‑day, overnight position at different offsite locations throughout the state of Arizona during the Summer season.

MANDATORY

TRAINING DATES AND SCHEDULING EXPECTATIONS

If hired, individuals are required to attend one of the two virtual training sessions offered, as well as the entirety of the week‑long in‑person training session prior to the start of the summer camp season. Dates are as follows:

  • Saturday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Virtual Training Option 1
  • Sunday, May 17 from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Virtual Training Option 2
  • Tuesday, May 26 – Friday, May 29 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. In Person Training
  • Thursday, May 28 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Family Orientation Night

If hired, individuals must be available to work a minimum of three out of eight camp week sessions, with the ability to work more than the minimum preferred. Each camp week runs differently at offsite locations, however, typical schedules are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. daily; 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily; 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily;

or 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. daily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Able to prepare, present and facilitate in‑person, pre‑planned, hands‑on STEM activities
  • Assist Arizona Science Center in delivering its mission
  • Supervise activities and experiments to ensure safe and enjoyable experiences
  • Educate students K‑8 with grade‑level appropriate content
  • Set up classrooms and prepare materials for camp
  • Clean, organize, and maintain the upkeep of the sites
  • Communicate with schools/program sites before, during, and after camps
  • Provide excellent communication with the offsite manager and/or the Director of Camp and collaborate on projects
  • Be respectful of other communities beliefs and practices
  • Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your campers at all times.
  • Maintains accurate program records, including incident reports, daily attendance and record keeping of offsite spending
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with an assistant
