Purpose Statement
The job of Teacher - High School is performed to provide support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for developing student success in academics (e.g., Reading, writing, language, math) or skills (e.g., Art, music, physical education); supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues;
and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.
This job reports to Site Administrator
Essential Functions
Administers subject‑specific assessments and tests to assess the level of students’ competencies.
Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, student achievements, and methods for improvement.
Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
Counsels students or refers them to appropriate school personnel for improving performance, health status, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners for an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
Differentiates classroom work to provide instructional materials that address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
Directs student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to support an effective classroom program and address individual student needs.
Instructs students to improve success in academics through a defined course of study.
Manages student behavior for a safe and optimal learning environment.
Monitors students in various educational environments (e.g., classroom, campus, field trips) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
Participates in district, staff, and departmental meetings to convey and gather information required for job functions.
Participates on PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
Prepares written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
Reports health and safety issues to the assigned administrator and appropriate agencies to maintain student safety and comply with regulations.
Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.
Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to resolve issues and provide information.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills needed include applying assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment and relevant software, maintaining accurate records, and applying curriculum and instructional techniques.
Knowledge required includes algebra and/or geometry, reading technical information, composing documents, and facilitating group discussions. Familiarity with codes, policies, regulations, age‑appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, behavioral management strategies, assessment instruments, and instructional methods is essential.
Abilities include scheduling activities, meetings, and events; gathering, collating, and classifying data; using job‑related equipment; working flexibly with diverse individuals; and problem‑solving with data and equipment.
