overview

this is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated high school students currently enrolled in a cte program to gain valuable, career-focused experience within the city of san luis!

summary

under direct supervision, performs routine general office tasks, providing the participant with practical experience in an office setting.

essential functions

as defined under the americans with disabilities act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and characteristics. This list is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class.

  • provide customer service, including greeting visitors in person, answering telephone calls and directing inquiries appropriately.
  • complete assignments, evaluations, forms, and other tasks required by the coordinator and student supervisor.
  • perform routine data entry and basic typing tasks.
  • maintain both paper and electronic filing systems.
  • demonstrate professional behavior and conduct at the worksite.
  • maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • ensure confidentiality of work-related matters and city information.
  • perform other related duties as assigned.
education
  • must be currently enrolled in and attending a local high school;
  • must be actively enrolled in a career & technical education (cte) program, and have completed and passed level i of a cte course;
  • must be referred by the school cte coordinator;
  • must be willing to commit to learning procedures, processes, equipment and protocols;
  • have an overall gpa of 2.5 or higher; and
  • must maintain satisfactory school attendance.
special requirements
  • must be 16 years of age or older.
  • must maintain a continuous, exceptional code of conduct in school.
  • must complete the total number of hours to meet program requirements.
  • parental consent is required if under 18.
  • must provide own transportation.
  • must successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • depending on the department/program, a fingerprint level 1 clearance card may be required.

work is performed in a standard office environment. May occasionally be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.
