- Monitor and supervise students during instructional and non‑instructional activities including lunch, bus arrival/departure, free time, and off‑campus activities.
- Provide instructional activity assistance to individual students and/or small groups as requested by the teacher, attending classes and implementing accommodations and modifications.
- Assist teachers with preparation of room and instructional materials, maintain student records, folders, and performance data, and perform various clerical tasks as assigned.
- Assist teachers in designing activities for lesson plans and Individual Education Programs, and with performance assessments.
- Assist teachers with tracking students' grades and help students monitor their own grades to stay on track for graduation.
- Assist students with behavioral management needs, personal hygiene practice and understanding.
- Monitor student use of computers and other instructional equipment to ensure district and school policies are followed.
- Transport students to and from off‑campus activities or school as necessary.
- Assist students in eating as required.
- Employ restraint tactics to control harmful behavior or self‑abuse, and assist students during epileptic seizures.
- Administer medications under doctor’s orders and with parental permission.
- Attend staff meetings and in‑services.
- Support the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and staff, maintaining confidentiality and following governing board policies.
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or GED equivalent, and two years of classroom experience or experience working with special‑needs children; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
License and Certification Requirements: Paraprofessional certification desirable. Red Cross or EMT certification, CPR certification, and non‑violent behavior management certification within 60 days of hire, maintained at current status. Possess an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP fingerprint clearance card or obtain one within the first 90 workdays.

Work is performed in a classroom environment and throughout the school campus. May be exposed to bodily fluids and contagious illnesses when working with students. Ability to lift 70 pounds.
