The primary responsibility of a college-preparatory high school science teacher is to engage and challenge students through rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that builds strong scientific understanding, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills essential for college success and STEM pathways. The teacher designs and delivers engaging, inquiry-driven lessons according to the Arizona Academic Standards for Science in areas such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth/Space Science;
assesses student learning through multiple measures; and uses data to refine instruction and provide timely support or enrichment.
Other responsibilities include fostering a structured, safe, and inclusive classroom and laboratory environment; integrating literacy, math, and technology into science instruction; and explicitly teaching scientific practices such as investigation, analysis, experimentation, and evidence-based reasoning.…
