Hiring Salary Range: $51,774 - $99,673/annually DOE

Grade: 001

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 30 hours/week; may require numerous evenings and weekends depending on the needs of the college and program. The set schedule will be discussed during the hiring process and confirmed prior to each teaching semester but classes can occur in the mornings and evenings.

Job Summary

The Full‑Time HVAC Faculty member's primary role is to deliver engaging, multi‑disciplinary instruction in the theory and hands‑on application of refrigeration, air conditioning, and facilities systems using industry‑standard HVAC&R equipment. This position emphasizes practical, field‑ready technician training, including soldering and brazing techniques, refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance, basic system troubleshooting, pump‑down and evacuation procedures, compressor maintenance, and system wiring. In addition to core technical instruction, the faculty member introduces students to advanced HVAC concepts and emerging technologies, including system controls, duct design, variable air volume (VAV) systems, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, and computer‑based programming for air conditioning units.

Instruction includes system setup, diagnostics, and troubleshooting using modern digital and automated control platforms. The HVAC Faculty member supports workforce readiness by aligning instruction with current industry standards and safety practices, mentoring students toward successful careers in the HVAC and construction trades, and actively contributing to curriculum development, instructional councils, and college service.

Essential Functions
  • Provide classroom and hands‑on laboratory instruction in HVAC and related Construction Trades courses in alignment with approved curriculum and industry standards.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate course materials, assessments, and instructional activities to support student learning and workforce readiness.
  • Maintain a safe instructional environment in compliance with OSHA and college safety requirements.
  • Assess student performance, maintain accurate records, and provide timely feedback.
  • Participate in the Applied Technology Instructional Council and collaborate with department leadership on curriculum, credential review, and program improvement.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, career pathways, and industry certifications.
  • Engage in professional development, college service, and industry partnerships to remain current in HVAC and construction trades.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
  • Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor's degree or higher OR
  • A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field
  • A Journeyman certification in the field to be taught
Desired Qualifications
  • A. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a closely related field, or a minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience in the HVAC industry.
  • B. Five (5) years of hands‑on experience in HVAC air conditioning systems, including commercial and industrial applications.
  • C. Five (5) years of related field experience in medium‑to‑low‑temperature commercial refrigeration systems, including supermarket refrigeration and residential systems, where applicable.
  • D. Five (5) years of electrical technology experience, including troubleshooting and working with computer‑based controls and automation systems.
  • E. Demonstrated knowledge of current HVAC codes, safety standards, and/or industry best practices.
  • F. Prior teaching, training, mentoring, or workforce development experience preferred.
  • G. One (1) year full‑time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two (2) years.
