Position: Science Teacher (Middle School)
Purpose Statement: The job of Teacher - Middle School is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a middle school teacher with specific responsibilities for developing student success in academics (e.g. Reading, writing, language, math, etc.) or skills (e.g. Art, music, physical education, etc.); supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines;
collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.
- Administers subject specific assessments and tests for the purpose of assessing the level of students’ competencies.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress.
- Advises students for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
- Assesses student progress towards objectives.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, District personnel, parents and a variety of community resources.
- Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners.
- Differentiates classroom work for individualized learning within established lesson plans.
- Directs student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers.
- Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academics.
- Manages student behavior.
- Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, field trips, dances, athletic events, etc.).
- Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. district, staff, departmental, etc.).
- Participates on PLC team for reviewing data and instructional practices.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for documentation.
- Reports health and safety issues.
- Responds to inquiries from various sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.).
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Skilled to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with an ability to upgrade skills;
Knowledge required to perform algebra and/or geometry;
Ability to schedule activities, gather data, use job-related equipment;
Problem solving required.
Working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilizing resources from other work units; opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.
Work EnvironmentPhysical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; general requirements 10% sitting, 40% walking, 50% standing; exposure to temperature extremes and risk of injury.
ExperienceJob related experience is desired.
EducationBachelors degree in job-related area.
