Purpose Statement
The job of Teacher - Middle School is to provide support to the instructional process by serving as a middle school teacher with responsibilities for developing student success in academics (e.g., reading, writing, language, math, etc.) or skills (e.g., art, music, physical education, etc.). The teacher supervises students within the classroom and other assigned areas, develops lesson plans, delivers group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines, collaborates with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues, and responds to inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.

Essential Functions- Administers subject‑specific assessments and tests to assess the level of students’ competencies.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress, communicating expectations, student achievements, and methods for improvement or reinforcing classroom goals at home.
- Advises students to improve performance, health status, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, district personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes and achieve established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
- Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners, providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
- Differentiates classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
- Directs student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and meet individual student needs.
- Instructs students to improve their success in academics through a defined course of study.
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors students in various educational environments (e.g., classroom, field trips, dances, athletic events) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in meetings (e.g., district, staff, departmental) to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
- Participates on PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
- Prepares written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Reports health and safety issues to the assigned administrator and appropriate agencies, maintaining student personal safety, a positive learning environment, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, etc., to resolve issues, provide information, and/or direction.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct appropriate personnel for resolution.
Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
