Behavior Intervention Specialist

I.

General Description:

Under the direction of the special education teacher, the behavior coach will provide assistance to children who are in a special education program.

II. Qualifications

Experience working with emotionally/behaviorally disabled/disordered students in a school, mental health, or hospital setting is preferred.

Knowledge of child development concepts and practices.

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must possess a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance card.

Crisis Prevention Intervention certification (offered at the district).

First Aid and CPR training certification (offered at the district).

III. Duties and Responsibilities

Work intensively with students who have been unable to function effectively in the classroom and immediately deal with individual student behavioral/emotional problems.

Communicate reality-based problem solving techniques to students.

Complete and maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.

Complete and maintain First Aid and CPR training certification.

Assist in developing and administering educational programs for behaviorally/emotionally and/or academically challenged students.

Assist teachers in the classroom by interacting with students who are disruptive, off‑task, or exhibiting other emotional needs that interfere with the student's progress within the classroom.

Prepare or assist in the preparation of a variety of logs, reports, files, reviews, etc.

Escort children to the bus, time‑out, the nurse's office, and across campus.

Facilitate decision‑making and communication between students and teachers.

Follow District Policies, procedures, and directives in a timely and appropriate manner.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to:

Alternative school teacher(s) and/or Alternative School Coordinator.

Calendar: 10 months; 40 hours/week.
