Behavior Intervention Specialist

I.

General Description:

Under the direction of the special education teacher, the behavior coach will provide assistance to children who are in a special education program.

II. Qualifications
  • Experience working with emotionally/behaviorally disabled/disordered students in a school, mental health, or hospital setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development concepts and practices.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance card.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention certification (offered at the district).
  • First Aid and CPR training certification (offered at the district).
  • III. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work intensively with students who have been unable to function effectively in the classroom and immediately deal with individual student behavioral/emotional problems.
  • Communicate reality-based problem solving techniques to students.
  • Complete and maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
  • Complete and maintain First Aid and CPR training certification.
  • Assist in developing and administering educational programs for behaviorally/emotionally and/or academically challenged students.
  • Assist teachers in the classroom by interacting with students who are disruptive, off‑task, or exhibiting other emotional needs that interfere with the student's progress within the classroom.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of a variety of logs, reports, files, reviews, etc.
  • Escort children to the bus, time‑out, the nurse's office, and across campus.
  • Facilitate decision‑making and communication between students and teachers.
  • Follow District Policies, procedures, and directives in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to:

    Alternative school teacher(s) and/or Alternative School Coordinator.

    Calendar: 10 months; 40 hours/week.
