- Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines for special education documentation.
- Plan and deliver instruction using the most efficient and effective methodology for students.
- Employ special education strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory and perceptual motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
- Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
- Implement the approved-course curriculum.
- Collaborate with parents, administrators, related service providers, and professionals to develop individual educational plans designed to promote each student’s educational, physical, and social development.
- Meet with parents and/or guardians to discuss their children’s progress and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
- Support children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and a positive self-image.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
- Utilize preventive discipline methodology with students.
- Assist students in developing positive moral and performance character attributes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Principal/School Leader.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
- AZ State certification and endorsement in assigned area.
- 1-2 years of successful teaching experience in special education.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations and statutes and theory and practice of student learning styles.
