Summary

Safety Assistant maintains a safe learning and working environment for all students and staff on school campuses by monitoring activities and addressing safety concerns. Protects and secures all District property at the campus level.

Essential Functions
  • Monitors campus activities and events; upholds all campus and District rules and regulations.
  • Monitors and assesses campus buildings and grounds to ensure that only students with valid 's or authorized persons are on campus and students do not leave campus grounds without authorization.
  • Builds positive relationships with students and staff; supports a positive campus climate.
  • Escorts disruptive students from classroom to Administration office, supervises students awaiting intervention. Deescalates physical and verbal altercations.
  • Informs Dispatch/Base, Safety Assistant, Campus Safety Supervisor or Safety Assistant, Senior of campus activities.
  • May be required to assist safety teams at other District sites as needed.
  • Participates in mandatory District/Local in-service training programs.
  • Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work‑related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

Required Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

High School diploma or GED equivalent; and some previous experience in security or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age.

License and Certification Requirements

A valid Arizona State Driver’s License is required.
Must possess current Red Cross first aid certificate and CPR certificate at time of employment or obtain within first 60 days of employment and maintain on a current status.
Possess an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card or obtain one within the first 90 workdays of employment.
