Job Description

Purpose Statement

The job of CE Childcare Associate I is to support the instructional program within the assigned classroom by implementing programs for the personal and emotional growth of the students, assisting with behavior monitoring, and communicating observations to teachers, parents, and administrators.

Essential Functions

  • Administers first aid to provide immediate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured children.
  • Assists students with personal care needs such as diapering, toilet training, feeding, etc.
  • Assists the site manager with age‑appropriate activities in individual or small groups (games, art, music, science, language, nutrition, playground, handwashing, etc.).
  • Communicates with internal stakeholders to convey and receive required information.
  • Completes a minimum of 18 verifiable hours of approved training annually to meet mandated Department of Health Services regulations.
  • Distributes instructional and/or play materials to provide required supplies.
  • Establishes positive relationships to build student confidence and self‑esteem.
  • Implements instructional programs and lesson plans under supervision of the site manager.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and records to ensure availability, safety, and compliance with regulations.
  • Maintains acceptable behavior standards consistent with district and program policy.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in various settings (snack time, games, playground, quiet time, field trips, classroom, homework, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Organizes quiet or active, age‑appropriate indoor and/or outdoor activities for participation.
  • Prepares nutritional snacks, lunches, bottles, etc., in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to supervisor, teacher, and parents regarding student progress.
  • Transfers children directly from/to parents or designee to ensure safety and meet district requirements.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Skilled in preparing and maintaining accurate records. Knowledge of basic math, reading and following instructions, and understanding multi‑step written and oral instructions. Understanding of stages of child development, methods of motivating and controlling children, and awareness of applicable codes, regulations, and laws.

Abilities include scheduling activities, gathering and collating data, using basic job‑related equipment, working with diverse individuals, problem‑solving, and communicating with varied backgrounds while maintaining confidentiality and adapting to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

Work under immediate supervision; lead, guide, and/or coordinate others; utilize resources from other work units as required.

Work Environment

Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity. No sitting or standing. Exposure to risk of injury or illness in a clean environment.

Experience

Job‑related experience is desired.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.
