Position Highlights

The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is hiring facilitators for case‑based instruction (CBI) to support the delivery of the Foundational Curriculum for first- and second‑year medical students. The CBI facilitators serve as faculty facilitators for small‑group, in‑person sessions, helping students apply foundational science concepts to clinical cases, develop problem‑solving and communication skills, and build the reasoning framework needed for clinical training.

Facilitators are expected to complete CBI training, facilitate approximately 20 CBI sessions per academic year, attend or review CBI preparation sessions, assess student performance, and meet individually with assigned students during each block. They also contribute to continuous improvement of the CBI curriculum through facilitator meetings, feedback to block directors, and assistance with case development or revision.

• Complete CBI facilitator training, which includes a brief online training module (~30 minutes) and shadowing 2 CBI sessions with an experienced facilitator.
• Facilitate 20 case‑based instruction (CBI) sessions per academic year (July‑June) for MS 1 and/or MS 2 students; each CBI case is held in person and lasts approximately 3‑4 hours per CBI.
• Attend CBI preparation sessions (approximately 1 hour per CBI; sessions held virtually and recorded for asynchronous viewing).
• Assess students in CBI group (7‑8 students) via individual in‑person meetings with each student once per block and via online assessment form twice per block.
• Participate in CBI facilitator meetings as needed (e.g., CBI debrief sessions after each block, annual CBI facilitator retreat).
• Review and provide feedback on CBI cases to block directors regarding appropriate case rigor, alignment with current practices, etc.
• Assist block directors with writing new cases or updating existing cases as needed.
• Stay informed about periodic updates and changes to the CBI curriculum through quarterly newsletters and email correspondence from block directors, coordinators, and the associate dean of Foundational Curriculum.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Hold an MD, DO or PhD, or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
• Be clinically active and board certified if an MD or DO.

• Have experience teaching or developing content.
• Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal communication and professionalism skills.

Part‑time Faculty (MD, DO or PhD), Facilitator, Case‑based Instruction – College of Medicine‑Phoenix. One‑year position, renewable annually based on performance and curricular needs.
