Summary

Under general direction, the incumbent handles the implementation of the school discipline, truancy, and tardiness programs, recommends appropriate levels of disciplinary action for students, investigates referrals, documents and maintains proper paperwork, and supports a positive and productive climate and culture.

Essential Functions
  • Implement school-wide behavior management, bullying, truancy, and tardiness programs by working with administration, the School Discipline Committee, school staff, and the District office.
  • Recommend appropriate levels of disciplinary action for students who violate school expectations, investigate discipline referrals, and complete paperwork and data entry requirements.
  • Enforce disciplinary action according to District and school policies and procedures.
  • Model and facilitate school-wide programs that promote positive self-esteem, decision‑making skills, conflict resolution, and peer mediation.
  • Support interventions for teachers and parents prior to Team Approach Process (TAP) referrals, including participating in child study teams, monitoring functional behavioral assessments, and student behavior intervention plans. Provide pertinent discipline and attendance data to support the TAP process.
  • Communicate with staff, parents, and students regarding discipline, truancy, and tardiness, and with parents, under the principal’s direction, regarding student progress and concerns including improvements in specific academic areas and behavioral problems.
  • Assist the principal and school team in conducting threat assessments using District guidelines.
  • Report student conduct to applicable law enforcement agencies and collaborate with resource officers and local law enforcement agencies regarding prevention plans.
  • Monitor and observe classrooms, hallways, and recess areas for student behaviors.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, professional development seminars, and other student support related meetings.
  • Maintain visibility and accessibility on the school campus and at school-related activities and events during the workday.
  • Recognize indicators of disruption of the orderly conduct of the school and implement strategies.
  • Participate in school‑wide climate and culture team to evaluate data, discuss strategies, and implement new ideas for continuing positive behavior among students, staff, and the community.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to teachers in the implementation of discipline policies and school safety, with training provided as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Two years of work experience with students.
  • High school diploma.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a public education system.
  • Two years of student services–related experience.
  • Possession of a valid CPI Certification Card.
Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Demonstrating instructional and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of child abuse reporting requirements.
  • Application of school discipline procedures and intervention procedures.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
  • Utilizing WESD Board policies including truancy, discipline, tardiness, etc.
  • Demonstrating child development theories.
  • Basic mathematical concepts knowledge.
  • Use of typical activities within a classroom environment.
  • Positive influence with children.
  • Demonstrating appropriate techniques and procedures.
  • Facilitating group activities in a learning environment.
  • Applying school rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills with supervisors, staff, students, and others to exchange information.
  • Knowledge of organizational practices.
