GENERAL STATEMENTS OF RESPONSIBILITIESThe TOA, Native American Specialist shall be responsible for providing supplementary services to eligible Native American students at assigned worksites within the school district.
MAJOR DUTIES- Consult with local Native tribes on all Title programs; coordinate and conduct Tribal Consultations on all Title Budgets with neighboring Tribes.
- Gather and monitor student data (grades, standardized test scores, attendance, and dropout records) to document Native American student progress; analyze data to determine program effectiveness and make informed program decisions.
- Manage and coordinate grant funding cycles: coordinate Title VI and Johnson O'Malley (JOM) grants, including planning, implementation, and evaluation; meet program goals through collaboration with parent committees and the district.
- Compile, complete, and verify Native American certification process for Title VI and JOM funding; oversee the collection, verification, and certification of all tribal enrollment documents required by state and federal mandates; prepare state and federal reports on the academic progress of Native American students.
- Monitor and evaluate program goals and budget expenditures; hold regular meetings; recruit Native American parents to serve on Indian Education committees for JOM and Title VI; determine program goals and budgets with their assistance; coordinate preparation of expenditures and submission of invoices that support program goals; hold regular parent executive and general meetings.
- Assist Native American Advisors in their duties; through them establish, manage, coordinate, and support site‑based Native American Youth Councils and support groups.
- Promote awareness of, and appreciation for, historical and cultural contributions of Native Americans; provide teachers with professional development workshops designed to encourage cultural competency.
- Collaborate with school counselors and other personnel to ensure quality educational services for all Native American students.
- Collaborate with school principals and other leaders to strengthen and enrich the educational experience and provide support services to Native American students; advocate for Native American students.
- Create extended learning opportunities for Native American students, which may include Saturday school, before/after school tutoring, and/or summer enrichment classes.
- Possess a Bachelor's Degree; a Master's Degree preferred.
- Possess an Arizona Secondary Teaching Certificate.
- At least three (3) years of successful experience working with Native American Education Program(s).
- Ability to administer and interpret a variety of education assessment instruments and use information to provide appropriate educational services for students.
- Ability to work with students and parents in a variety of situations.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
