Purpose StatementThe Math Curriculum Specialist supports PreK‑12 math program initiatives, including developing and revising curriculum and assessments, facilitating curriculum adoptions and implementation, coaching, and guiding teachers in best practices for mathematics instruction. The position provides professional development through planned learning sessions and embedded practices of planning, modeling, and coaching.
The Specialist reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
Essential Functions- Lead development and implementation of PreK‑12 math curriculum and assessments.
- Provide instructional support to math teachers for successful student achievement.
- Assist teachers with classroom organization, materials procurement, and learning activities.
- Observe instruction, model or co‑teach, consult, reflect, and give feedback.
- Collaborate with administrators, other specialists, and department leaders to address areas of greatest need.
- Analyze data to determine benchmarks, set goals, and monitor improvement; develop concrete steps to address identified needs.
- Provide developmental assistance and resources for teachers to meet varied student learning needs.
- Facilitate professional learning communities and district‑wide professional development to ensure curricular consistency.
- Attend professional development and activities to improve knowledge of content, instructional strategies, coaching skills, and adult learning theory.
- Inform staff of emerging mathematics instruction and learning.
- Facilitate selection and implementation of curriculum resources and supplementary materials.
- Work with the Arizona Department of Education and other specialists to keep PVSchools at the forefront of math instruction, curriculum alignment with standards, and assessment.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Analytical and critical thinking, applying district, state, and federal policies.
- Operating standard computing equipment and proficient in common software applications.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records with confidentiality and ethics.
- Excellent collaboration, organization, and communication skills.
- Basic numeracy, logic, statistics, and programming knowledge (script, query, SQL).
- Ability to schedule, coordinate activities, collect and analyze data.
Responsibilities
- Work under direct supervision using standardized routines, advise others, and utilize resources from other units.
- Manage physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; fine finger dexterity; 60% sitting, 20% walking, 20% standing.
Experience
Experience in a K‑12 work environment.
Education
Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, Management, or related area.
Required Testing
Education Certification in Arizona K‑12.
Continuing Education / Training
Criminal Background Clearance;
Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Clearances
FLSA Status – Exempt.
