The job of Gifted Specialist in the Journey Gifted Middle School Program at Mountain Trail Middle School is to provide instruction to gifted students in grades 7 & 8 by developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction with established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and classroom issues; and responding to inquiries from parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide instruction to gifted identified students in grades 7 & 8 in Social Studies and Science.
- Work with Director of Gifted Education to support departmental goals.
- Attend Gifted Specialist in services.
- Oversee nomination for gifted testing at school level.
- Preside over the monthly gifted cluster teacher meetings.
- Provide staff development opportunities at the school level.
- Attend district staff development opportunities related to gifted education.
- Gather data for program evaluation purposes.
- Administer subject‑specific assessments for assessing student competency levels and/or developing individualized learning plans.
- Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, achievements, and improvement methods.
- Assess student progress toward objectives to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
- Counsel students to improve performance, health status, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
- Demonstrate pedagogical approaches that engage learners and address individual student requirements.
- Differentiates classroom work to provide instructional materials for individualized learning within established lesson plans.
- Facilitate student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills.
- Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
- Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitor students in various educational environments to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Organize age‑appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to ensure student participation in learning activities.
- Participate on PLC team to review data and instructional practices.
- Participate in staff, district, IEPs, 504s, and other meetings to gather required information.
- Maintain written materials such as grades, attendance, anecdotal records to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Report health and safety issues to administrators and appropriate agencies to maintain student safety and comply with regulations.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators to resolve issues and provide information.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements:Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Apply assessment instruments and operate standard office equipment and software.
- Teach Arizona State recognized standards and prepare accurate records.
- Perform algebra and/or geometry, read technical information, compose documents, facilitate discussions, and analyze situations to define issues.
- Understand applicable codes, policies, regulations, plans, and developmental stages.
- Schedule activities, meet and solve problems with data and equipment, and work flexibly with diverse individuals.
