PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Saint Mary’s Catholic High School is seeking a full‑time, in‑house substitute teacher. The ideal candidate will model the Catholic faith, create an engaging and positive learning environment, and build positive school and community relationships. A bachelor’s degree in any field is required to apply for a substitute certificate.
The role will be under the supervision of the Principal and the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction. The successful candidate will:
- Model Catholic education, promoting gospel values and Catholic moral teaching, and participate in faith development activities.
- Prepare classrooms, communicate daily and unit objectives, manage student behavior, enforce rules and disciplinary measures in accordance with school policies, and follow the daily substitute instruction manual.
- Establish positive school‑community relationships, maintain cooperative relations, promote curricular and co‑curricular programs, attend faculty meetings and in‑services, and perform additional duties as assigned.
- Engage in professional development, attend diocesan‑sponsored in‑services, attend school faculty meetings, and maintain personal development records.

REQUIRED:
- Personal self‑discipline, adaptability, flexibility in routine and unexpected situations.
- Good judgment, effective verbal and written communication.
- Appropriate sense of humor.
- Knowledge and understanding of effective teaching techniques and child psychology.
- Appropriate grooming and dress as stated in the faculty handbook.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten‑month employee (paid in a 12‑month contract), full‑time, salaried. A schedule of mandatory days and extra responsibilities will be provided prior to the start of a new school year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
- Practicing Roman Catholic preferred.
- Willingness to make a public Profession of Faith if Catholic; non‑Catholic candidates must support Catholic teachings and philosophy.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent to obtain an AZ Substitute Certificate.
- Certified by the Arizona State Department of Education as a substitute teacher.
- Safe Environment Training completed, Code of Conduct signed, and AZ Fingerprint clearance completed.
